Privacy Policy

Last Updated: April 27, 2026

Spomyn is built on the fundamental principle that your journey belongs to you. We don't collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. Period.

1. Location & Background Data

Spomyn requires access to your device's location services (GPS) to function as a navigational aid, record GPX tracks, and facilitate automatic POI visit logging. Because Spomyn can track your hikes and log visits while your phone is in your pocket, the app requires Background Location access.

  • Complete On-Device Processing: This data is processed exclusively on your device. We do not transmit your live location, tracking history, or GPX coordinates to any external server.
  • Your entire movement history is stored strictly within the application's private database, which is secured and encrypted by your device's native operating system (iOS or Android).

2. Motion & Fitness Data (Activity Recognition)

To optimize your device's battery life during long background tracking sessions, Spomyn requests access to your device's Motion & Fitness (or Physical Activity) data. This allows the app's tracking engine to intelligently pause the GPS hardware when it detects that you are stationary. This motion data is analyzed entirely on your device in real-time and is never stored, logged, or transmitted to our servers.

3. Notifications

Spomyn requests permission to send you notifications. This is primarily required by your device's operating system to run a secure "Foreground Service." This visible notification ensures the tracking engine can safely run in the background without being unexpectedly terminated by your device. We do not use this permission to send you marketing or promotional spam.

4. User Content & Photos

You may choose to attach photos and notes to your visit logs and journal entries. This content is stored locally on your device in the application's secure sandbox. Spomyn requests access to your photo library solely to allow you to select and attach specific images to your journal. We do not have access to your full library, and your photos are never uploaded to our servers or analyzed by third parties.

5. Data Exports & Backups (.spomyn files)

Your data belongs to you. Spomyn allows you to export your entire journal, GPX tracks, and visit history as a secure .spomyn backup file. You have full control over where you save or share this file (such as your local file system, iCloud, Google Drive, or email). Because these backups are generated and managed entirely by you on your local device, Spomyn (the developers) has no access to your backed-up data.

6. Map Data & POI Region Downloads

To display maps and allow the Visit Logger to work completely offline, Spomyn downloads vector map tiles and offline POI (Point of Interest) Region Packs from our content delivery network or providers like OpenFreeMap. While your device must communicate with our servers to download these regional files, these requests are completely decoupled from your live GPS data and are never used to track your identity or location history.

7. Payments & Subscriptions

Any purchases or subscriptions made within the app (such as the "Pro Version" upgrade) are processed directly and securely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Spomyn does not collect, store, or process your credit card information, billing name, or financial data.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Because Spomyn is a local-first application, we do not store your data on our servers. You have total control over the lifecycle of your information:

  • Data Retention: Your journey data, location history, and photos are retained locally on your device for as long as the application is installed. We do not set an expiration date on your local data.
  • How to Delete Your Data: You can delete specific visit logs, GPX tracks, or photos directly within the app at any time. To perform a complete and permanent deletion of all data stored by Spomyn, simply uninstall the application from your device settings. This action will wipe the local database and all associated files stored in the app's secure sandbox.
  • Backup Deletion: Any .spomyn backup files or GPX exports you have created are stored in locations you chose (e.g., iCloud, Google Drive, or local folders). To delete these, you must manually remove them from those respective storage providers.
  • Data Deletion Requests: Since we do not collect or store your data on any external servers, we cannot "delete it for you" upon request—you already possess the sole copy of your data and the tools to delete it yourself.
